«И стал я разглядывать и вдруг увидел какие-то странные лица. Все это были странные, чудные фигуры, вполне прозаические, вовсе не Дон Карлосы и Позы, а вполне титулярные советники...»

Night of Museums

The Night of Museums is held every year on the Saturday closest to the International Museum Day. In 2014, both events will coincide since the European night of Museums will take place during the night of the 17th to the 18th of May.

The European Night of Museums was created in 2005 by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. On this occasion, the closing time of the museums is postponed to approximately one in the morning, which allows the public to visit the participating museums by night, for free. This year will celebrate the  tenth edition of the European night of Museums.

By welcoming the public during the night, museums invite them to visit the collections in a different, unusual and more sensory way.

NIGHT OF MUSEUMS AT THE DOSTOEVSKY MUSEUM

On the Night of Museums 2014 the Dostoevsky Museum is open from 18.00 to 23.00.

Main objects: F.M. Dostoevsky’s memorial flat and the literary exhibition dedicated to his life and art.

All rooms in the writer’s flat are equipped with audio guides in Russian. The literary exhibition is provided with a theme-based guided tour in Russian, “Light and Color in Dostoevsky’s Work,” by the young consultants who have attended a special course on Dostoevsky at the museum.

Two exhibitions are open:

1. “Dostoevsky. Version 4” – exhibition of the best photos by the audience of the 4th city festival Dostoevsky Day. The exhibition features a screening of "Dostoevsky. Version-4 " based on materials of the city festival Dostoevsky Day 2013

2. Exhibition by the artist Andrey Khineiko "From Greece to Northern Venice"

The museum’s theater auditorium will host a master class by Anna Viktorova (of the Puppet Format/ Kukolny Format) on the creation of Dostoevsky’s puppet Petersburg: “Light and Color in the City of Dostoevsky.” Visitors will be able to create their own paper house and to color a prepared module which at the end of the master class will be combined into the writer’s city. The resulting object will be displayed in the theater auditorium the following day, photographed, filmed and posted to the museum website.

Visitors will be able to acquire unique books published by the museum (in Russian), as well as elegant souvenirs, to converse with museum research fellows and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a 19th century household.
