Dostoevsky Day is an annual city festival held in Saint Petersburg on the first Saturday of July. The date is linked to the opening lines of Crime and Punishment: "On an exceptionally hot evening early in July, a young man came out of the garret in which he lodged…".
The festival was born in 2010 on the initiative of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Culture. Since 2015, the Dostoevsky Museum has served as its curator. Over 16 years, Dostoevsky Day has become one of the city's most cherished literary traditions.
The festival brings together museums, theatres, libraries, and cultural venues across Saint Petersburg. The programme includes guided walks through Dostoevsky's Petersburg, street performances and carnival shows featuring leading actors from the city's theatres, lectures, film screenings, quests, workshops, and performances. Characters from Dostoevsky's novels come to life on the streets and squares of the city.
The next, 17th, Dostoevsky Day will take place on July 4, 2026. The festival programme will be published in the second half of June on the festival website and social media:
