The 17th Dostoevsky Day

Saturday, July 4, 2026

On the first Saturday of July, Saint Petersburg will celebrate Dostoevsky Day for the seventeenth time — a city festival born from a single line: "On an exceptionally hot evening early in July, a young man came out of the garret in which he lodged…".

Since 2010, this festival has become a true literary tradition of Saint Petersburg. Museums, theatres, libraries, and cultural venues across the city take part. Characters from Dostoevsky's novels come to life on the streets and squares, young volunteer guides lead walks to the addresses of the writer and his characters, and actors from Saint Petersburg's theatres perform on open-air stages throughout the city.

On July 4, 2026, you can look forward to: — guided walks through Dostoevsky's Petersburg: "Raskolnikov in the City", routes around Vladimirskaya and Sennaya squares — a street theatre performance featuring actors from Saint Petersburg's leading theatres — lectures, film screenings, quests, and workshops — special programmes from museums, libraries, and theatres

The festival programme will be published in the second half of June on the festival website and social media:
